Perth and Adelaide services out of Launceston Airport are back!

Northern Tasmanians will soon be able to fly direct to Perth and Adelaide once again, with Virgin Australia resuming the two popular routes.

Seasonal flights between Launceston and Perth will recommence on 29 October, with the Adelaide service resuming on 15 December. Both services will operate up to three times a week.

Launceston Airport CEO Shane O’Hare welcomed the resumption of the two routes, saying that it means Launceston will once again have direct links to five mainland state capitals ahead of the summer season.

“As the northern gateway to Tasmania, we’re always working hard to maintain and attract new services so we can keep Tasmanians connected to the mainland as well as drive interstate visitation to our beautiful state,” he said.

“Interstate travellers are particularly important to our economy, with recent Tourism Tasmania data showing that domestic visitors spend almost $4,000 per trip, which is higher than pre-Covid.

“The resumption of these two routes will also support demand building up to the busy summer period. We’re expecting a bumper summer this year, with traffic expected to be above pre-Covid levels based on current forecasts.

“We’re also expecting a busy few weeks as we head into the Tasmanian school holidays, with around 60,000 passengers forecast to pass through the airport between 1 and 16 October.

“Overall, we expect strong market demand throughout October, with 110,000 passengers forecast, which is around 96 per cent of pre-COVID levels.

“During the school holiday period, we encourage travellers to arrive 90 minutes prior to their flight departure time to enable a smooth check-in and security process.

“The Launceston Store, Hudsons Coffee, Wilderness Café and Boags Bar will all be open and looking forward to welcoming travellers.

“We also encourage people to take advantage of our great value car parking options from just $13 a day. We do expect demand for parking to be very high.

“Real-time arrivals and departures information, car parking product pricing information and details about shopping, cafes and other airport services can be found on our website, www.launcestonairport.com.au.

“Above all, have a great and safe travel experience.”
