Launceston Airport sets new records in July
Travellers are choosing to visit Northern Tasmania in record numbers with Launceston Airport recording its busiest July ever.
The airport welcomed a total of 115,792 passengers across the month, which represents a 7.4 per cent increase on July last year.
The new record was helped by one of the busiest school holiday periods on record with 66,494 passengers passing through the airport between the 5th to the 20th of July.
New Chief Executive Officer of Launceston Airport Katie Cooper said the airport is one of Tasmania’s most important assets and supports jobs across the state.
“Launceston Airport is playing an increasingly important role in Tasmania, by facilitating connections with the rest of Australia and ensuring the success of some of our most important industries”, she said.
“It’s an exciting time to be joining the airport and I’d like to acknowledge and thank Shane O'Hare for his work over the last four years to put the airport into the enviable position it is today.
“We’re mid-way through a major redevelopment of our departures hall, and we’re working hard to secure extra capacity from the airlines because we know that more seats into Launceston means more opportunities for the people who live here.
"These results are wonderful, but there's still plenty of work to do to achieve our vision of becoming Australia's favourite regional airport and I look forward to playing a part in that journey."
