6 things to see and do at the Cataract Gorge

Naturally Scenic, with Something for Everyone

Launceston's Cataract Gorge is located within the Trevallyn Nature Recreation area. The reserve is naturally beautiful, with a collection of walking tracks leading to beautiful views, plenty of native wildlife, and modern amenities that make visits to the gorge accessible and enjoyable for all.

Walks

Cataract Gorge has many walking tracks which cater to everyone. The gorge provides a wonderful environment for a casual stroll, and also contains a wealth of more advanced tracks with great views that bushwalking enthusiasts are sure to appreciate. Walks like the Zig-zag track, Cataract walk and Bridge walk loop are casual, scenic walks just 5 mins from the CBD. For more advanced bushwalkers, the Duck Reach walk (which a sign lists as a 90-minute return) is listed as one of Tasmania’s 60 Great Short Walks and offers impressive views of the gorge.

Swimming

The First Basin has a gated public swimming pool that is filled in the summer. For those not afraid of the cold (and eels!), you can swim in the water of the gorge all year-round, but be prepared for cold water even in the warmer months.
