Expanded Launceston Store opens for school holiday travellers

Interstate travellers will have a bigger choice of local Tasmanian products to take home with them these school holidays, with a larger and upgraded Launceston Store reopening today in the Launceston Airport departures hall.

Floor space has been increased by more than 50 per cent to showcase over 35 local vendors including Lark Distilling Co, Anvers Tasmania, Josef Chromy Wines and Bluey Merino.

With school holidays starting today, Launceston Airport is expecting almost 70,000 passengers across the two-week holiday period.

Friday the 3rd of October forecast to be the busiest day with 4670 passengers expected through the doors.

Underscoring Launceston’s popularity, Virgin Australia will resume direct seasonal services to Adelaide and Perth again next month. Non-stop services to Perth will commence on Sunday the 5th of October followed by flights to Adelaide on Tuesday the 7th.

Launceston Airport CEO Katie Cooper said the Departures Hall transformation would help cater for the growing number of people passing through the terminal.

"We’re striving to be Australia’s favourite regional airport, and these works bring us close to realising that vision,” she said.

“We're proud to boast some of the best airport views in the nation as well as some of the best local producers, and these upgrades will showcase both.

“Launceston Airport passenger numbers have been at record levels, and the resumption of Virgin Australia’s seasonal Adelaide and Perth services highlights the opportunity the airlines see in Tasmania.

“The holidays are a busy time and as we are undertaking works both in the terminals and in our car parks, we'd recommend allowing an extra 15 minutes to take the stress out of your journey.

“During peak periods like this we flex up operations across the business, which means we’ll have more security, customer service and operational staff on to get you where you need to go as quickly and smoothly as possible.”
