School holiday travellers set to descend on Launceston Airport

Launceston Airport is preparing to welcome tens of thousands of passengers across the upcoming Easter school holiday period.

The airport is expecting more than 63,000 passengers throughout the two week period from 12 April through to 27 April, with an average of more than 4,000 passengers through the terminal each day.

Anzac Day and the Easter break overlapping this year will deliver the busiest day of the period on Sunday 27 April with almost 5000 passengers forecast.

Work by the airport and airlines to improve reliability and resilience is showing results, the latest Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) report reveals only two services to the airport were cancelled in February, the lowest number in three years.

A total of 949 passenger flights came through Launceston Airport in February carrying 118,744 passengers.

Launceston Airport Head of Planning Development and Customer Ilya Brucksch said with works underway in the Departures Hall passengers will notice some changes to their journey.

"This Easter, passengers will notice worksites will be cordoned off in our Departures Hall while we embark on phase two of our terminal transformation works which when complete will deliver a truly world class passenger experience.

"Until May we will have a temporary café called "York St Café" serving coffee and light food offerings while works progress on our three new food and beverage outlets.

"I'd like to thank passengers for their patience as we get on with the largest renovation of our terminal in almost 20 years, trust us it will be worth it when it's complete.

"To take the stress out of your travel plans this easter, we recommend arriving 90 minutes before your flights departure.

"We've put on extra staff across the airport which means more security, cleaners and customer service staff on hand to help your holiday plans take off without a hitch.
